KPMG has announced that General Counsel Vanessa Sharp will leave her role after nearly two decades this spring.

Widely credited with sculpting the UK GC role and constructing its present day legal department, Sharp has overseen many of the Big 4 firm’s landmark changes since 1996. This includes facilitating the KPMG European merger in 2007 and managing the firm’s response to European reforms to statutory audit in the wake of internal market and services commission Michel Barnier’s investigation.

In addition to her role as GC, Sharp also belongs to KPMG’s ethics committee, and has been a member of Eversheds’ advisory board and a member of the International Women’s Forum for years.

As reported in Legal Business, “Commenting on the resignation, a KPMG spokesperson said: ‘After 18 years with us, Vanessa Sharp has decided to retire from the KPMG partnership and her role as General Counsel in May this year in order to take a well-deserved sabbatical and then explore other opportunities. Vanessa has provided tremendous service and counsel to KPMG in her time here. We will miss her when she leaves and wish her all the very best for the future.’
