Baker & McKenzie has brought on Petra Meissner who will be joining the firm’s practice group in Vienna composed of Dr. Alexander Petsche, Dr. Stefan Riegler and Mag. Georg Krakow. Meissner worked as an attorney with Freshfields before she switched to the administration of justice, where she became a prosecutor and later a judge.

Schoenherr has made Ursula Rath, an equity partner in Vienna. Rath specializes in capital markets transactions, investment funds and asset management and regulatory financial services.

Czech Republic

Dentons announced the appointment of Evan Lazar as chairman of its European Board on January 24. Lazar is a real estate and property finance lawyer in Central and Eastern Europe. He is experienced in all areas of cross-border property and finance transactions.



Hogan Lovells hired new counsel, Katia Merlini. Merlini and the team that she is joining advise and represent French and international financial institutions, and corporate clients undertaking derivatives transactions.

McDermott Will & Emery announced the arrival of counsel Laurent Ayache to its Paris office. Ayache focuses his practice on government contracts, public corporations, antitrust and industry regulation issues. His practice also includes litigation related to regulated industries such as energy, electronic communications, airports, transportation, public housing, drinking water and sanitization.


Kleyr Grasso Associates added a new partner to its financial and corporate ranks with the hire of Jean-Paul Spang. Spang specializes in M&A, private equity and capital markets.


Baker & McKenzie Mexico announced four new attorneys. The team is made up of Javiera Medina, Tania Avila, Liliana Hernandez, and Alma Ramirez. Medina joins Baker & McKenzie as a partner and has experience in labor, employment and social security. Avila focuses mainly on social security advice, planning, and litigations. Hernandez has participated in several projects in international law firms while Ramirez has experience advising companies in labor law, aeronautics and human resources.


Dentons Global Real Estate group in Europe named Pawel Debowski to co-chair alongside Eric Rosedale. Debowski specializes in real estate finance and investment issues and advises many Polish and foreign clients.

South Africa

Norton Rose Fulbright announced that Henri Nieuwoudt, Allison Williams and Rachael Younger have joined the South African practice. Nieuwoudt has mining law experience and will specialize in mining, minerals, natural resources and energy. Williams re-joins as a director in the Durban commercial team and will focus on intellectual property, black economic empowerment, consumer protection and data protection law. Younger has experience advising on business development and marketing programs in professional services.

Carson McDowell welcomed Richard Gray, who is one of the region’s leading commercial lawyers and will head up the corporate team alongside Neasa Quigley. Dawson McConkey also joined as a partner within the real estate team, focusing on renewable energy. Sinead McGrath joined as a partner with expertise in banking and insolvency.


Baker & McKenzie named Marcel Enrich as a new partner in its finance department in Barcelona. Marcel has experience in private equity transactional, funding and finance advice.

Herbert Smith Freehills named Javier Ortega de la Pena a partner in Madrid. He specializes in acquisitions of commercial property, aeronautical law, town planning and structured financing of real estate and mortgage-secured real estate financing. His clients include German real estate open and closed funds and mortgage banks.

Norton Rose Fulbright announced that Paul Swarbrick joined the firm as Global Chief Information Security Officer, based in the London office. Swarbick will be working closely with IT and the business internationally to develop a consistent approach to information assurance and cyber security worldwide.

TLT is bulking up its energy and renewables expertise with the appointment of corporate associate, Kay Hobbs.
