Valentin Berea

Allen & Overy announced the introduction of new partner Valentin Berea, who specializes in litigation and competition law, together with a team of three lawyers in Bucharest. Berea has won some of the most notable anti-trust litigation cases, together with his team, succeeded in obtaining in court the first significant reduction of a fine imposed by the Competition Council, according to the firm. Berea joins current partners Costin Taracila, Victor Padurari, Alexandru Retevoescu, Mihai Ristici, and Professor Lucian Mihai whom he previously worked with. He is a certified intellectual property counselor and an assistant professor at the Bucharest Law University.

Dentons welcomed new partner, and one of Ukraine’s leading legal practitioners, Adam Mycyk to their office in Kyiv. The firm announced the arrival Aug. 6. Mycyk joins from the Kyiv office of Chadbourne & Parke. Prior to that Adam was a partner at CMS Cameron McKenna in Kyiv where he led the Corporate/M&A group and co-led the Banking & International Finance practice. Mycyk regularly advises foreign companies, Ukrainian companies, banks, investment banks and other institutions on constructing and configuring debt and equity inward investments as well as having an excellent reputation in legal and business communities.

Furtek Komosa Aleksandrowicz announced in August the introduction of two new members of their team, Anna Rak and Tomasz Wlazto. Anna and Tomasz are to support the team in its day-to-day litigation services to FKA Clients as well as in providing legal assistance in arbitration proceedings both in Poland and abroad, the firm said. During the past year Anna actively participated in international moots and conferences, including a conference at Warsaw University. During the past year Tomasz co-organized and actively participated in a variety of conferences in Russia.

Herbert Smith Freehills introduced new partner Dirk Hamann to their office in Berlin.  Hamann previously worked at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Hamann is experienced in public and private M&A, corporate advisory work, joint ventures, privatizations and refinancing and general disputes advice including corporate litigation and arbitration. He will be joining corporate and M&A lawyers Ralf Thaeter and Nico Abel, real estate specialist Hans Thomas Kessler, disputes expert Mathias Wittinghofer, finance partner Kai Liebrich and competition lawyer Michael Dietrich.

Norton Rose Fulbright has hired new director Lizel Oberholzer in their Cape Town practice.  Lizel joins one of the largest energy legal practices in the world with more than 850 lawyers in every major energy market. She is a leading oil and gas lawyer who focuses on the upstream and midstream sectors. Lizel’s has an exquisite understanding of the African market and outstanding reputation will be a great asset to Herbert Smith’s practice, the firm said.

Bio-Techne has recently welcomed Brenda S. Furlow as senior vice president and general counsel, responsible for legal and compliance matters for the company and its affiliates. The announcement was made on August 8 and will encourage the business’ strategic direction as well as helping to expand the global platform, according to the company. Furlow previously worked as general counsel of a publicly traded medical devices company and, prior to that, almost 10 years as general counsel with Promega, a private life sciences company.  She brings extensive experience in the areas of intellectual property, patent and licensing, compliance, litigation and regulatory.
