paypalIn the wake of their split from eBay this month, online payments giant PayPal has named longtime Nokia chief legal officer Louise Pentland as General Counsel to be located in the company’s San Jose office.

Reporting to president and chief executive Dan Schulman, Pentland will be responsible for PayPal’s compliance with financial and regulatory requirements globally.

Schulman said Pentland’s appointment would “make an immediate impact as we work to take advantage of our tremendous opportunity ahead”.

As reported by The Lawyer, “eBay hired Agilent Technologies’ top lawyer Marie Oh Huber as its new general counsel as the company prepares for the split of eBay and PayPal into two separate companies later this year.  Huber joins eBay from equipment manufacturer Agilent, where she served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary since 2009, and as vice president, assistant general counsel and assistant secretary from 2000 to 2009.”

eBay bought PayPal in 2001 but revealed plans to part ways with the electronic arm of the business last September.  This month, Dixons Carphone announced it hired hired BT Group’s Nigel Paterson as general counsel, less than a year after the companies merged.

Pursuant to The Lawyer, “Paterson, who featured in The Lawyer’s Hot 100 in 2014, was general counsel of BT’s consumer legal, governance, compliance and regulatory team for over a year, and worked for the telecoms group since 2000. His appointment signals the end of the joint general counsel role between Carphone Warehouse general counsel Tim Morris and Dixons general counsel Helen Grantham following the finalisation of the merger in August 2014.”
